It was standing-room only at the groundbreaking celebration for the new William J. Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center at UCCS that is poised to transform education, research, and healthcare for athletes of all levels, active individuals with disabilities, elite military, and first responders. We were thrilled to celebrate this milestone with the university and Penrose-St. Francis Health Services, Centura Health, and our design-build partners HOK Architects and JE Dunn Construction. We had a wonderful weekend celebrating the ribbon cutting for TWO completed projects on one very special campus. The Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind provides specialized education services and we are honored to have a role in their growing campus. At more than 12,000 SF, Jones Hall houses the Colorado Instructional Materials Center as well as VIP rooms for campus guests and a low vision clinic. In addition, a full renovation of the 15,000+ SF Palmer Hall was completed and hosts CSDB's "Bridges to Life" program which serves students between the ages of 18 and 21 and seeks to bridge the gap between high school and the real world, emphasizing education, employment, and independence. Congratulations CSDB!
The team atop Pikes Peak has been working hard to complete as much as they can on the new Summit Complex before their short construction season comes to an end. Recently they have been blasting permafrost and bedrock, preparing for the central raised walkway, and some excavation has already begun. We'll be looking forward to the erection of part of the building core in the coming months and now you can watch too! Click here to access the live stream.
RTA's work on the NICU/ED/OR expansion at the St. Francis Medical Center is one of the few IPD projects with a multi-party agreement in the state of Colorado. RTA Principal John Hoelscher, AIA discusses some of the key differences between an integrated team approach, or "IPD light," and a true multiparty agreement as well as some of our project team's lessons learned in the September issue of Healthcare Design magazine.
Big things are happening at Academy District 20's School in the Woods! Thanks to GE Johnson things are really taking shape, and we are so excited to see the final result.
We recently attended the ribbon cutting for the St. Francis Medical Center NICU. With 25 new beds, an outdoor balcony, and a wellness garden, the new facility will be able to provide family integrated care for Colorado Springs' smallest patients. Read more about this project here.
Parents, students, educators, and community members gathered this week to celebrate the completed addition at World Compass Academy! The 23,000 SF addition includes new classrooms, a new lunchroom, art room, science facilities, and administrative spaces. We can't wait to see all of the wonderful things students will accomplish in this new space!
One of our most unique projects to date is taking shape! The foundations for the Adaptive Sports Center have been poured and work is currently beginning on the elevator and stair cores. Click here to see live construction updates.
After two long years, we are ecstatic to say that one of our in-house construction administrators, Rick Taves, has returned! Rick and his wife have been on a two-year sabbatical working with Engineering Ministries International in Kampala, Uganda managing the construction of the "Music for Life" secondary school. We are very proud of the important work that he has done and grateful to have been part of his support, but we are really glad to have him back in our office serving our clients at home!
