  • Celebrating the Groundbreaking of the Nettie S. Freed K-8 Expeditionary School

Another milestone was celebrated for the Pueblo D60 Nettie S. Freed K-8 Expeditionary School at its recent groundbreaking ceremony. Principal Nicolas Roberts, a Pueblo ISD graduate and former Assistant Principal of Pueblo Centennial High School, accepted a plaque to display in the new K-8 to commemorate the event. This is the third project of the RTA/MOA joint venture as a result of the 2019 bond measure. The newly named school is located at the site of the former Heroes K-8 Academy School and brings back a neighborhood school to the community.

The new school is named in honor of the District’s first female superintendent and Colorado’s first Commissioner of Public Education Nettie S. Freed. The school will provide experiential learning opportunities in a technology-rich environment for Career and Technical Education (CTE) career pathways through engaging hands-on learning. Click here to learn more about this great project.
