Pueblo Community Health Center's East Side Clinic
After completing a master plan for the Pueblo Community Health Center (PCHC), RTA was retained to design a new community health center in Pueblo. This new clinic provides much needed health care services, conveniently located in one building, to serve the large amount of PCHC patients on the city’s East Side.

The new three-story health clinic features extensive natural light and a brick exterior reminiscent of Pueblo’s historic buildings. It has 78 exam rooms offering a full range of medical services, open and collaborative clinical pod layout, meeting space, and shell space for future expansion. Biophilic design paired with exceptional energy efficient-design gives Pueblo’s east side a truly state-of-the-art new clinic.
"Zero Energy is an aspect of the project I mention every chance I can, and I think it will shine a very positive light on PCHC and the Pueblo community. I’m very proud that we are delivering this project and achieving such impactful beneficial goals as a result.”
RTA worked closely with Pueblo Community Health Center leadership, staff, stakeholders, and the Pueblo’s east side community to create a design that will benefit the community for years to come. Throughout the course of numerous user group and community meetings, the team identified the goal of designing the building to meet Zero Energy Building standards to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, significantly reduce energy usage and operating costs, and to set a new standard in outpatient clinic design. The new East Side clinic is the first verified Zero Energy outpatient clinic in North America, according to the New Buildings Institute (NBI).
