Pikes Peak Hospice

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Why

Connecting through experience of place.

When faced with the challenge of finding a new location for their facility, Pikes Peak Hospice was wary of relocating to a hospital. This is because so much of the hospice mission is to provide an environment without any of the connotations, fears, or anxieties that a typical hospital engenders.

How

Ever curious. Ever learning. Ever improving.

Hearing their concerns and understanding the significance of their work, RTA took every effort to turn Pikes Peak Hospice’s new space inside Penrose Hospital into a restful and comfortable home. In fact, creating a home-like environment within the confines of a hospital was the greatest challenge for the design of the hospice center.

What

Purposeful, engaging solutions.

RTA achieved a sense of familiarity and comfort by using soft lighting, warm colors, and natural materials. Furthermore, because families may spend long periods of time comforting their loved ones at the facility, the team at RTA placed considerable emphasis on the family spaces by integrating distinct areas designed for relaxation, work, and child play.

The renovated Pikes Peak Hospice includes a palliative care room, 15 patient rooms, a patient spa, family spaces, and collaborative work areas.
