Ouray PK-12 Renovation

Ouray, CO

Why

Connecting through experience of place.

The Ouray PK-12 project was a two-phase renovation that involved improvements to the existing facility originally constructed in 1936. The unique character of this small mountain town was very evident in the school culture, and we wanted to do what we could from a planning perspective to support it and make it even stronger.

How

Ever curious. Ever learning. Ever improving.

The planning process for this project was involved the entire Ouray community. The Design Advisory Group that worked with RTA was highly engaged and represented the Board, staff, students, community members and administration. All significant meetings were held as community events with high turnout and active participation. After a full assessment, the existing facilities were found to be structurally sound and worthy of future investment as the issues identified deal largely with infrastructure, security, life safety, and finishes.

What

Purposeful, engaging solutions.

The redesigned facility includes innovative 21st Century learning spaces to support modern curriculum delivery and an emphasis on safety for all students and staff. The renovated school features South and Southeast vestibule additions, a new sloped roof and attic addition, security upgrades, new entry steps, new windows, HVAC system upgrades, a fully replaced fire alarm system to meet current codes, and the addition of a full building sprinkler system.
