Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care
Nestled into the wooded foothills of Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care provides essential end-of-life care to our community. Pikes Peak Hospice believes that comfort and dignity should be accessible to all and that a hospice space should be about autonomy in the final days. To address the changing needs of local hospice services, Pikes Peak Hospice decided to create a new 12-bed in-patient hospice unit within their existing campus.

Size: 19,000 SF
Cost: $5.3M (est.)
Design Details
- 12 patient rooms
- Staff support spaces
- Commerical kitchen, dining, chapel/reflection space, family room, seating room
Each patient room will allow for personalization and provide a private bathroom, a family zone, and a staff zone. Necessary medical equipment in the patient rooms can be concealed to avoid an institutional feel. Patients and their families can access a kitchen, family dining, chapel, veteran’s reflection space, meditation room, family lounge, and kid’s activity space. The beautiful outdoor gardens will be expanded to increase patient access to the outdoors as well as extend views from the patient rooms. The timeless palette of interior finishes creates a homelike environment that echoes the patterns and textures of the surrounding mountain foothills.
Utilizing a collaborative 3P Process, RTA set out to establish project goals and visions. The design strategies were developed and implemented within the 1st-floor space with the addition of a family room and drop-off canopy.
