Penrose Vascular Center of Colorado

Colorado Springs, Colorado

The Penrose Vascular Center is located on the third floor of Penrose Hospital with easy access to both the Emergency Department and the Helicopter Pad. This Center was designed to provide for elective and emergent invasive cardiac needs.

In 2010, the Vascular Center invested in the Philips Allura Bi-Plane, their first Hybrid room. The Bi-Plane room is used for a variety of procedures where visualization of complex cardiac anatomy and patient treatment time is critical.

The 22,000-square-foot Center has five procedure rooms and one shell space, including electrophysiological, angiographic, catheter labs, and the Hybrid Bi-Plane room. Because RTA’s original flexible design for the Center allowed for ease of construction within the functioning facility, RTA has been able to complete numerous renovations in order to keep the facility on the leading edge of technology.

From 2013 to 2015, renovations on the Vascular Center including the replacement of ceiling and floor mounted systems and equipment at an existing 646-square-foot Catheter Lab with a Philips D.S. Allura FD20 system. Also, there have been revisions to the equipment storage areas and a renovated mechanical system.

This project was a team effort that mandated collaboration between the Owners, end Users, physicists, engineers, equipment vendors, the contractor, and sub-contractors of many disciplines. The complexity of the equipment required for the Center necessitated the inclusive collaborative model and the use of LEAN Design Principles in order to avoid conflicts and make optimal use of time and skills.
