Nederland Elementary School Renovations

Nederland, Colorado

Why

Connecting through experience of place.

Nederland Elementary School is nestled on a hillside in Nederland, Colorado among the pine and aspen trees of the Roosevelt National Forest and faces the jagged peaks of the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area to the south. Built in 1989, the school’s facilities were in need of an upgrade with funding provided by the District’s 2014 bond.

How

Ever curious. Ever learning. Ever improving.

Working closely with this tightly-knit community, RTA facilitated five Design Advisory Team (DAT) meetings involving community members, staff, and parents. Student alumni participated as well through feedback cards given to the DAT.Working closely with this tightly-knit community, RTA facilitated five Design Advisory Team (DAT) meetings involving community members, staff, and parents. What

Purposeful, engaging solutions.

The renovated Nederland Elementary School provides expanded kindergarten and preschool space and a technology maker space in the library. Playground renovations to improve accessibility—including ramps, new equipment, and rubberized surface material to replace wood chips—were also needed as outdoor fitness is an emphasis at all grade levels.
