The program is designed with adaptability in mind, organized around a two-and-a-half-round elementary school. Two classrooms for each grade are provided, with three flex classrooms to readily accommodate additional students in any single grade. Exploratory classroom spaces, including dedicated science, technology, music, and art spaces, are also provided. The existing middle school gym will be repurposed for elementary school PE classes and activities. Administration spaces include the principal’s office, two flex offices, reception, and a nurse’s space. Counseling, special education, and a teacher’s workroom are also provided. The proposed K-5 program will accommodate a student capacity of approximately 368 students.
As part of the Master Plan process, RTA generated a space program for the Platte Canyon Elementary School as a test fit for solutions. This iterative process with the master planning advisory team provided insight into the size of a proposed elementary school based on enrollment and future enrollment projections. Through the design advisory group process, the space program was adjusted based on specific space requirements for the elementary school.
