Carlson Elementary Wins Two Rocky Mountain A4LE Awards
We’re thrilled to announce that the Clear Creek School District Carlson Elementary School Renovation/Relocation won two Rocky Mountain A4LE Awards! The project was awarded the Summit Award and the Educators’ and Students’ Choice Award.
Nestled into a mountainside, the previously abandoned Building 103 has been transformed into an experiential elementary school that fosters curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. Carlson Elementary, originally located in downtown Idaho Springs, faced limitations due to its aging building and tight site. As part of the 2021 capital construction bond, the Clear Creek School District RE-1 relocated Carlson Elementary to the former High School/Middle School building, known as Building 103.
The new Carlson Elementary School is designed around the concept of Experiential Learning, featuring flexible, collaborative learning spaces with connections to nature on each floor. The renovation of the 1969 brutalist school building honors the unique community and strengthens community connections.
