Ronald McDonald House serves families in our growing community. Due to the growth of the new Children’s Hospital and the University of Colorado Health (UCH) Memorial Hospital North, the demand for expansion on the Ronald McDonald House has grown. RMDH purchased land just a block away from the new Children’s Hospital for their new facility to keep families as close as possible in their time of healing.
RTA visited several Ronald McDonald House locations to speak to families, volunteers and staff about their needs and how the various facilities were functioning. RTA worked alongside the staff of Ronald McDonald House of Southern Colorado to ensure all the spaces within the new House are designed and developed with full consideration given to the growing number of families that are served.
The new Southern Colorado Ronald McDonald House will provide four times more space and doubles the guest room capacity. The House will be approximately 25,000 square feet and will include 20 family suites with the ability to expand to 30, a manager suite, two full kitchens and dining room, a children’s play area, a teen room, a family room, numerous support spaces and ample space for residents. Outdoor features include respite areas, walking paths, a children’s play area, a half-basketball court, and a patio with outdoor seating and a barbeque grill. With a groundbreaking in July 2018, the new Ronald McDonald house is slated for completion in the second quarter of 2019.
