Springs Rescue Mission Renovation & Expansion

Colorado Springs, CO

"RTA and Nunn Construction went above and beyond anything we could have asked for in a contractor and architectural firm. The Architects took the time to understand who we are as an organization and more importantly, what our guests need and desire in a place to stay. RTA has truly captured and brought to life the idea of ‘designing with dignity’.”

Larry Yonker, CEO & President, Springs Rescue Mission

Why

Connecting through experience of place.

After the successful completion of the Springs Rescue Mission (SRM) master plan, RTA was retained to re-purpose the existing site into a more effective and efficient campus. The campus restorations were split into two phases in order to provide shelter as quickly as possible while simultaneously allowing SRM time to obtain additional funding.

How

Ever curious. Ever learning. Ever improving.

Phase 1 began with the completion of the year-round low-barrier shelter in November 2016. The new shelter serves 270-300 guests daily, effectively tripling the amount of sleeping spaces previously available while also freeing up space elsewhere on campus for a 32 bed women’s shelter. By repurposing the existing buildings, SRM was able to invest more money into providing services for their guests rather than purchasing costly building materials.

What

Purposeful, engaging solutions.

The first phase of renovations effectively improves circulation among guests, volunteers, and staff while simultaneously expanding the number of programs offered. Phase 1 was brought to a close with the grand opening of the Resource Center, which provides new showers, a communal gathering space, computer access, lodging for pets, and laundry facilities. In addition, The Mission has partnered with nine different agencies that will use the office space in the Resource Center to provide health, dental, workforce, and human services on site.
