As part of the San Luis Valley Health organization, the Conejos County Hospital is the only emergency service provider in the Conejos and Costilla counties providing for emergency medical needs to more than 3,000 patients each year. The original facility was constructed in the 1950s and later added onto in 1975. After serving the area for more than 50 years, the Conejos County Hospital asked RTA to design a much needed emergency department renovation. The renovation and addition will provide 5,300 SF of restructured space to deliver more efficient flow and improved patient experience.
The first step in the design process was to identify the key issues in the emergency department and ascertain not only the best solution to those issues, but to develop those solutions in such a way to help the hospital provide the best care possible for their patients. Major concerns were the patient flow and experience, as well as more efficient staff workflow.
Interior upgrades as well as a more welcoming entry were needed. In addition, new mechanical and electrical systems will provide necessary upgrades to ensure the hospital is code compliant and energy efficient.
With construction slated to begin in spring 2018, this project is on schedule to be complete in fall 2018.
