Stuart L. Coppedge, Principal
FAIA, LEED AP
Stuart has a passion for understanding clients’ perspectives by discovering how they do their jobs and examining what their day-to-day lives are like. He excels at bringing the client and design team together and managing the personalities and strengths for the benefit of the project. Stuart's ability to connect with clients and develop trust helps him to lead projects and to give clients confidence and comfort in the direction of the design. In fact, a client once showed their appreciation for his flexibility on a difficult project by giving him a Gumby figurine. With that, his unofficial motto became "Semper Gumby" - Always Flexible.
One of Stuart's most notable projects was the master planning an design of a multi-year, $54 million improvement of the Ignacio School District as part of an overall transformation of this multi-cultural district in the Four Corners area of Colorado. The work was published in several journals, presented at multiple national education design conferences, and several individual projects were recognized with awards from both architectural and educational design organizations. Most importantly, the Ignacio community now has an enhanced sense of pride and purpose, with improved academic performance and increased student and teacher retention.
